Corrupt Excel File Recovery

Excel worksheets are used to create and manage financial transactions, performance reports, charts, business reports, accounting transactions, and other financial and diagrammatic records. The excel (.xls) files generally get corrupt due to registry corruptions, virus attacks, unexpected system shutdowns, power failures and media corruptions. To recover back the lost and deleted excel files and data you can utilize the inbuilt recovery measures provided in MS Excel which performs the recovery procedure effectively and repairs the corruption in almost every case.

Whenever an excel file gets corrupt due to unexpected system shutdown or power failure, the very next time when the application is launched, MS Excel displays a Document Recovery Window, where list of all the repaired files are listed. You can select the appropriate file and the last saved data will be recovered instantly.

But in case if MS Excel does not recovers the file, you can manually start the process of recovery:

1. Open New Excel worksheet

2. Click the File menu and select the Open option.

3. In the Open dialogue box, select the .xls file which you want to open. The Open button will get activated, click the arrow and select the Open and Repair option.

4. Click the Repair button to start the process of recovery and Extract Data button to extract data if excel was unable to repair a previous workbook.

The Excel workbook with corruptions can be easily recovered and repaired by using this method.

The additional methods which can be utilized to recover data from excel workbooks are, opening the file on different hard disk or on a different computer system, saving a backup copy, opening the file in ms word or notepad or otherwise using a third party utility.

Third party utilities prove beneficial in the cases where inbuilt recovery methods are not able to recover major corruptions like, the complete formulas or are unable to convert the excel values.
